Kenyan couple Brian Muchiri and Jane Karumba have been overwhelmed with kindness and generosity following the viral success of their engagement video, which has now amassed over 1.7 million views.
On Valentine’s Day, Brian proposed to Jane, an intimate moment that quickly captured the hearts of viewers across Kenya and beyond. The video sparked a flood of well-wishers who flooded the comment section, offering a wide range of gifts and wedding essentials. The response was so unexpected that Brian took to his YouTube channel to express his gratitude, revealing just how deeply moved he and Jane were by the outpouring of support.
“We’re in complete disbelief!” Brian shared in the video. “The love and generosity we’ve received from people, even strangers, has been truly overwhelming. People we don’t know personally have come forward to help us with our wedding plans and provide everything we need. This level of kindness is something we never expected, and we’re so grateful.”
Brian’s journey has been one of great resilience. Since a tragic accident during his teenage years, he has been wheelchair-bound. The incident occurred when he was returning home with four friends after a night out. A truck collided with their vehicle, leading to the deaths of three of his friends and leaving Brian with a spinal injury that resulted in paralysis from the chest down. At the time, Brian was a student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), and he was forced to put his studies on hold indefinitely as he recovered.
Despite the challenges he faced, Brian has turned his experience into a powerful force for good. He is a passionate advocate for people with disabilities, a storyteller, and a content creator. He also founded the Strong Spine Foundation, an organization dedicated to raising awareness and educating the public about disabilities.
Their engagement video, which began as a simple personal moment, has blossomed into something much larger, showing how compassion and generosity can transcend boundaries and bring people together.
