Producer Mel Gibson has given fans an update on the upcoming sequel following the 2004 Biblical blockbuster “The Passion of the Christ”.
The sequel named “The Resurrection of Christ”,has had production ongoing but will begin filming in 2026.
They are currently scouting for filming locations in Europe some possible locations for filming have been reported to be Malta in Italy,Israel and Morocco.
The “Passion of the Christ” was based on the Jesus’ last days on earth up to his crucifixion.It garnered so much praise, becoming the largest grossing independent film of all time cashing in 612 million dollars on a budget of 30 million dollars.
And was nominated for 3 academy awards.
“I’ve never read anything like it” he describes the script for the upcoming sequel,adding that it will contain “some crazy stuff”.
Noting “I think in order to tell the story properly, you have to really start with the fall of the angels which means your in another place,another realm.You have to go to hell”.

Jim Cavaziel will still be resuming his role as Jesus as as well as Maria Morgenstern as mother of Jesus and Francesco De Vito as Peter.
In 2018 Jim Cavaziel described this next sequel as being the “greatest film in history “.
