Tanzanian comedian Idris Sultan is once again addressing the longstanding issue of his Sh38 million Big Brother Africa prize money, after his ex-girlfriend, Wema Sepetu, denied accusations that she had squandered any part of it during their relationship. The couple dated from late 2015 to mid-2016, following Idris’s win in December 2014.
Wema has consistently rejected the claims, insisting that she never took any of the prize money. In a recent interview, she clarified, “I never took a shilling from him. If I got anything, it was a gift, like a Tom Ford perfume. Idris knows how he wasted his money, and I wasn’t part of it.” However, Idris has made it clear that he spent much of the money on an extravagant lifestyle and relationships with women, which led many of his fans to point fingers at Wema for dating him during that time.
In response to the ongoing rumors, Idris expressed frustration over the constant questions about his financial loss, stating, “Am I the first person to lose money? Some people get so desperate they harm themselves over losing a small amount, but I’m still here, and I’m doing okay.” He emphasized that the focus should shift from his past mistakes to how he has managed to recover and move forward with his career and life.
Idris also disagreed with Wema’s statement, adding, “Even if she didn’t directly spend my money, let’s be honest—she must have spent at least Tsh100 of it.”
Despite the controversy, Idris has moved past the issue and continues to focus on his career and financial stability. As the winner of the Big Brother Africa: Hot Shots reality show in 2014, he has left behind the drama and is now committed to his personal and professional growth.
