The funeral of the late former Chairperson of the Election Commission, Chebukati, will take place on Saturday, March 8, in his hometown of Kitale. His body arrived in Kitale on Thursday, March 6, after a funeral mass was held earlier in Nairobi at CITMA in Karen.
In preparation for the ceremony, strict security measures have been implemented. The County Commissioner released a statement with essential guidelines for the public to follow during the burial.
One of the key regulations is that mourners must not wear political attire or clothing with political messages. Anyone who violates this rule will be denied access to the ceremony, addressing concerns about potential disruptions from individuals trying to politicize the event.
The County Commissioner also reassured the public of heightened security to ensure the ceremony is carried out smoothly and respectfully. For those unable to attend in person, a livestream link will be provided, showing the procession and the arrival of the body at Sabata Farm in Kitale. A tribute service and sermon will be held on Friday, March 7.
Chebukati, 64, passed away on February 21 at Nairobi Hospital after being admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for a brief period. His family revealed that he had been battling brain cancer and ultimately succumbed to cardiac arrest.
The community and loved ones will gather to remember and celebrate his legacy as a dedicated public servant who served his country with distinction.
