Ugandan music star Jose Chameleone has officially launched legal action against well-known blogger Janie Namukasa after she disseminated inaccurate information about his health and legal issues. Namukasa alleged that the renowned artist had been incarcerated in the United States following a dispute with his friend and caregiver, Juliet Zewedde.
The claims, which were broadcasted in a video on Namukasa’s social media, led Chameleone’s legal team to issue a cease and desist notice demanding a public apology and monetary compensation. The letter, dated February 18, 2025, criticized Namukasa for making “false and malicious statements” that damaged the singer’s reputation. The legal team is pursuing 100 million Ugandan shillings, roughly Ksh 3.5 million, as restitution for the harm caused by these defamatory allegations.
Following the rumors, Chameleone took to his social media to set the record straight. The singer, who has been fighting a serious illness, reassured his supporters that he was not incarcerated but rather receiving medical treatment in a hospital. “In hospital for my surgery, I thank you all for the love and prayers. All will be well in Jesus’ name,” he stated, addressing the speculation.
Chameleone’s health issues began late last year, resulting in his hospitalization in Uganda. His condition deteriorated, necessitating his transfer to the United States for specialized healthcare. In a touching message shared with his fans, Chameleone expressed his appreciation for the love and support he had received during his hospital stay. He also extended his thanks to his caregivers, especially his close friend Juliet Zewedde, who had selflessly accompanied him to the U.S. to ensure he received appropriate medical attention.
“This festive season is a first for me – spending it away from the stage and all of you, my cherished fans. Regrettably, my hospitalization has interrupted our annual tradition of celebrating together through music,” Chameleone reflected on the effect his health issues had on his career. “I will be taking a temporary hiatus from performing until I have made a complete recovery.”
Despite his health challenges, Chameleone remains optimistic and resolved to return to the stage once he is fully recuperated. “I will come back stronger and better, God willing,” he assured his supporters.
Chameleone’s legal move against Namukasa underscores the increasing importance of responsible online conduct and the ramifications of spreading false information. With his cease and desist notice, Chameleone is making it clear that he will not accept false and harmful claims that could jeopardize his reputation. As he concentrates on his recovery, the artist has received an overwhelming show of support from his fans, who are eagerly anticipating his return to the stage.
