The body of Kenya Police Officer Samuel Tompoi Kaetuai, who tragically lost his life while serving in Haiti, arrived back in Kenya on Monday evening. Kaetuai, a member of the Kenyan-led Multi-National Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti, was killed last month during a routine patrol as part of the mission to help restore order in the country.
The remains of the fallen officer were received at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Gilbert Masengeli. The somber occasion was attended by key figures from the National Police Service and close family members.
Earlier, on March 2, 2025, Inspector General of the National Police Service, Douglas Kanja, visited Kaetuai’s family in Naserian Village, Kajiado East Sub-County, Kajiado County. He offered his condolences and stood in solidarity with the grieving family and friends, providing comfort during their difficult time.
After arriving at JKIA, Kaetuai’s body was transferred to Chiromo Mortuary for preservation while funeral arrangements are being finalized. The family will announce the burial date soon.
DIG Masengeli was accompanied by Commandant of the BPU, James Kamau, Director of Medical Services APS Madam Lilian Kanini, and NPS spokesperson Mr. Muchiri Nyaga. Also present were Kajiado County Senator Hon. Peris Tobiko, as well as Kaetuai’s family, including his father, Mr. Kaetuai, and the family spokesperson, Mr. George Kimiti.
The death of Officer Kaetuai, while serving on an international peacekeeping mission, has left a profound impact on the National Police Service and the country. His courage and commitment to his duties will be remembered by all who knew him.
