The much anticipated match between Kenya’s Harambee Stars and Gabon’s Panther’s kicked off today.
With Gabon scoring in both halves of the match, both goals by the Ex-Arsenal player Pierre -Emerick Aubameyang.
Restoring our hope Kenya’s Captain Michael Olunga came in scoring a consolation goal on the 62nd minute in the second half.
The stadium was fully packed ,this being the first time in over 6 years that Harambee stars played in a home stadium with full capacity.
The last time was in 2018 when they came out winners scoring 3 goals against Ethiopia in the 2018 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The match was held at Moi International Sports Centre,Kasarani.
This time Football Kenya Federation (FKF) announced all 22,900 were sold out.
The match had a vibrant atmosphere except for unfortunate incidents of violence such as an attack by goons on Mumias East MP Peter Salasya and some rogue fans chanting “Ruto must go”.
The match was attended by several high dignitaries including President Ruto himself.
This did not stop the rest from turning up as the Dj’s came through with timeless hits like the “Kasongo” love song which had the crowd going nuts.
The loss has seen Gabon make their way up to the top of the Group “F” category .
While Kenya’s hopes hang in the balance.
Fans are hoping for the best as we await to see our fate in the remaining matches.
