First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto recently participated with other African First Ladies in Zanzibar for the unveiling of the We Are Equal campaign, an initiative aimed at fostering positive change across the continent. Led by The Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), this campaign targets essential issues affecting women and communities, including education, health, gender-based violence, and women’s economic empowerment.
Mama Rachel Ruto was among the prominent attendees at the event, where she praised the dedication of Mariam Mwinyi, the First Lady of Zanzibar, for her leadership in these significant matters. The Kenyan First Lady expressed that her vision for enhancing the welfare of mothers and children is closely aligned with the objectives of the We Are Equal initiative. “Kenya has prioritized nutrition as the foundation of our campaign,” Mama Rachel stated. “We are partnering with public primary schools to meet the country’s Universal School Feeding Goal, which aims to deliver 10 million school meals by 2030.”
This initiative aims to meet the nutritional requirements of children while also supporting their education, as part of Kenya’s wider efforts to transform homes and communities by focusing on the welfare of mothers and children.
The launch event in Zanzibar also featured a morning walk and a medical camp organized by the Zanzibar Maisha Bora Foundation. Under the leadership of Mariam Mwinyi, the medical camp offered essential health services to the community, highlighting the critical need for accessible healthcare and well-being for all.
The We Are Equal campaign underscores the importance of collaboration among Africa’s First Ladies as they unite to tackle some of the continent’s most urgent challenges. Through this initiative, Mama Rachel Ruto and her fellow leaders are dedicated to ensuring that women and children throughout Africa are empowered, healthy, and prepared for a brighter future.
