The Minister for Defence of the Royal Kingdom of the Netherlands, Mr. Ruben Brekelmans, recently visited the National Defence University – Kenya (NDU-K) in Lanet, Nakuru, where he officially signed a Letter of Intent to strengthen cooperation between NDU-K and the Netherlands Defence Academy (NLDA).
During the signing ceremony, Mr. Brekelmans commended the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and NDU-K for establishing an internationally recognized institution that focuses on quality education and cutting-edge research. He expressed his belief that this partnership would significantly contribute to Kenya’s development, climate security, and enhanced responses to emerging global threats. “As global security challenges become more complex, collaboration and coordinated efforts are essential to addressing them effectively,” Mr. Brekelmans said.
Lieutenant General Jimson Mutai, the Vice-Chancellor of NDU-K, highlighted the crucial role of international partnerships in addressing contemporary security issues. He emphasized that collaborating with renowned institutions such as NLDA would foster mutual learning, innovation, and research in national security and strategic planning.
The event also served as an opportunity for the two institutions to share best practices, discuss future research opportunities, and further solidify the bilateral relationship between Kenya and the Netherlands in the field of defence education.
