Famous MC Oga Obinna got real with his fans in a recent sit down.
Speaking on the Mic Cheque podcast on YouTube he detailed his difficult childhood.
“I was the smartest kid in my house but when I got to Form 1 my grades dropped and sometimes I was among the last in class. That made my dad beat me even I wasn’t wrong”.
Revealing that he was treated the harshest despite being the youngest in the family.
He explained this led to a strained relationship with his father who was cruel and harsh to him at a young age ,to the extent of denying him food and had to depend on his mother for survival.
A situation that left him harbouring resentment in his early years causing him to lash out he says.
He hit his breaking point by running away from home, this after he stole and sold maize stalks from his father’s farm to buy food, which led to his father threatening to kill him.
“I sold my mom’s phone for 700 shillings, she gave me the money while crying after I told her I was running away because dad wanted to kill me”.
With the money Obinna boarded a train to kisumu and later took a bus to Nairobi where he spent the journey standing due to not having a proper ticket.
Moving forward and working on his healing,he has since forgiven his dad but the connection remains distant.
“We talk occasionally but not like before, honestly I did everything to get my dad’s approval “.
