Former Churchill Show stand-up comedian Professor Hamo, whose real name is Herman Gakobo Kago, has publicly discussed the personal and financial toll his infidelity took on his life, family, and career. In a candid conversation on the Mic Cheque Podcast, the father of five shared the devastating impact his affair with fellow comedian Jemutai had, especially when it became public knowledge.
Hamo, who was married with three children at the time of the scandal, revealed that the backlash was overwhelming. “When the news broke, it was like everything collapsed,” he said. The scandal led to the loss of valuable brand partnerships, with the comedian estimating that he lost around KSh 14 million in endorsements and deals. As the situation unfolded online, Hamo became a social outcast, with brands distancing themselves from him and his reputation tarnished beyond repair.
In his interview, Hamo admitted that the scandal wasn’t the sole cause of his financial struggles. “I had already been making reckless financial decisions before everything blew up,” he acknowledged. The combination of poor financial management and the scandal itself led to serious challenges in securing new deals, making it difficult for him to recover financially.
Hamo described how agencies he had worked with in the past suddenly stopped answering his calls and how companies withdrew from deals that had previously been confirmed. “It was that serious,” he said. “I lost money I was counting on, but more than that, I lost my brand, which was everything to me.”
However, the emotional pain of the situation went beyond the financial loss. Hamo spoke of the immense regret he felt for hurting his wife, the person who had stood by him through it all. “What hurt me the most was that I hurt my wife, and she had never wronged me,” he admitted, showing deep remorse for the pain he caused her.
Despite the hardships, Hamo expressed that the experience had been a turning point for him. He saw the ordeal as a “gift from God,” giving him an opportunity to rebuild and start anew. “When my reputation was in shambles, I knew God had given me a chance to start over,” he reflected with gratitude.
Acknowledging the crucial role his wife played in his recovery, Hamo credited her for standing by him throughout the difficult times. Her unwavering support helped him rebuild his life and career, giving him hope for the future despite the hardships he faced.
