In a rare interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Rihanna recently shared her insights about her highly anticipated new album, giving fans an idea of what to expect. The artist mentioned that the upcoming record will defy conventional expectations, moving away from the typical mainstream, radio-friendly sound.
“I realize it’s not going to align with what anyone expects,” she stated. “It won’t be easy for radio; it’s going to represent where my artistry stands at this moment.”
Although there have been speculations about a reggae album, Rihanna quickly dismissed those ideas. “That’s way off! There’s no specific genre involved,” she explained, noting that the time she spent away from music was vital in discovering the right direction. “I can’t release anything subpar. After eight years of waiting, we might as well wait some more.”
The 37-year-old expressed her excitement regarding the album, stating, “I feel like I’ve finally cracked it, girl!” She reflected on aging, describing it as both a struggle and a gift. “My legacy is happening right now,” Rihanna remarked. “That’s the only part I have the most control over.”
Although her music career has slowed down, Rihanna has remained active in developing her makeup and skincare lines. However, she is eager to return to what truly matters to her—her music.
