The Cabinet Secretary of Education Julius Ogamba has given a stern warning to school principals withholding KCSE and KCPE certificates from students who cleared the examination.
Declaring it illegal to hold vital documents regardless of any reason.
“Holding a student’s certificate when they have completed school on the basis of either a student not clearing school fees or that a student lost a book or broke a window is illegal”.
While speaking at the Huawei ICT competition he gave a directive that all certificates being withheld to be released with immediate effect ,a direct order to the KNEC act of 2012.
Principals are encouraged to seek other alternatives in recovering money owed by student’s that includes going through the legal court system.
This comes with plans to move custody of school certificates from schools to education offices .
