Women leaders have rallied behind Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika after the ongoing digital and cyber attacks regarding her absence from office due to maternity leave.
While speaking to the media at Parliament buildings ,they defended the governor’s absence emphasizing the need to understand the challenges faced by women leader’s noting how difficult it is to balance family and leadership.
“As women leader’s of Kenya we stand here today in solidarity with Governor Susan Kihika,a dedicated public servant and mother who recently welcomed twins into this world. We congratulate her on the birth of her children. They are a blessing from God.”
They went ahead to urge the public to exercise patience and empathyas her return has been delayed due to “unforseen circumstances ” which has been confirmed to be medical complications after her delivery.
Adding that” Governor Kihika is not just a leader, she is also a woman, a mother and a Kenyan who deserves the same rights and dignity as any other professional”.
However some Nakuru residents have not taken the matter lightly submitting a formal petition to the County Assembly demanding an official explanation of her absence beyond maternity leave, which they believe should have concluded by now..
Nakuru county activist Evans Kimori argued that thousands of Nakuru residents have been left without essential health services while the governor seeks advanced medical care in the US.
This is after the closure of War Memorial hospital in the county which has been serving thousands of Nakuru residents since 1906.
Kimori has since petitioned President Trump to facilitate the deportation of Kihika to Kenya claiming that her pro-longed absence has negatively impacted public services in the county.
Kihika’s last appearance was on November 18,2024 when she presided over a vocational training graduation ceremony.
